Approximately 1,500 students and parents (500 more than last year!) attended the 10th annual Chelsea Back to School Celebration at Williams Middle School in Chelsea on Thursday, August 22, 2013. Local school and community groups welcomed students back to school with games, prizes, giveaways, and resource information. About 36 groups attended, including GSDM Community Health Programs.
“GSDM continues to be an important partner in the Chelsea community through the Chelsea School Dental Center, which provides preventive and restorative services to thousands of children in need of care,” says Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “The Chelsea Back to School Celebration is a wonderful opportunity to meet many of these children and their families and share the importance of oral health care.”
Six BU faculty and staff spoke to guests about the Chelsea School Dental Center and oral health in general: Clinical Instructor and event organizer Gladys Carrasco, Director of School-based Programs Corinna Culler, Smart Smiles Program Dentist Lina Benslimane, Clinical Instructor Martin Ugarte, Dental Assistant Brian Mahoney, and Coordinator Flor Amaya. GSDM volunteers provided toothbrushes, toothpaste, stickers, and informational flyers.
