Entering pre-doctoral students finished their first day of orientation by attending the Ice Cream Social and Student Organization Fair in Hiebert Lounge on July 29, 2013. The event was sponsored for the seventh consecutive year by alumni couple Craig Allen (in attendance) and Nicole Paquette-Allen (not in attendance), both DMD 95, who met at their own GSDM pre-doctoral orientation!
Other guests included Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter; Assistant Dean of Students Joe Calabrese and his wife Michelle; Alumni Board and Dean’s Advisory Board member Shadi Daher DMD 90, OMFS 94; Associate Chair of General Dentistry Dr. Celeste Kong; Dr. Allen’s niece Jennifer Allen DMD 14, and the staff of Student Affairs and Development & Alumni Relations.
For the third year, Boston University mascot Rhett attended and took countless photos with the new Terriers. Students also received their first GSDM tee shirts from the Alumni Office.
Students socialized as they enjoyed the sweet treats and learned about both student groups and external resources. Groups in attendance included: FitRec, TransComm, Zipcar, the United States Army, Air Force and Navy, GSDM Student Government, and the BU chapters of Alpha Omega, the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, American Association of Women Dentists, American Student Dental Association, Hispanic Student Dental Association, and Student National Dental Association.
Perhaps most important to students, upperclassmen announced the results of the election determining the scrubs they would where for the next two and four years. For the first time ever, a tied vote was won by the DMD class, which will wear purple scrubs. Advanced Standing will be in teal.
