Nine Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) alumni received honors at the Convocation Ceremony held at the 2013 Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, which took place June 27–29, 2013.

GSDM alums Zeynep Barakat DMD 06; Druthil Belur DMD 07; Candida Castillo DMD 05, AEGD 06; George F. Hoaglin DMD 01; Yaqoob N. Khan DMD 04; Jennifer Karanian DMD 04; and Dheeraj Pamidmukkala DMD 05 received Fellowships in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD). Dr. Karanian’s husband, Jeremy Lansford DMD 04, received his Fellowship in 2012.

To earn an FAGD, a dentist must be an AGD member for three consecutive years, earn a minimum of 500 approved CE credits, and pass a comprehensive 250-question examination.

Jerry Strauss DMD 80 and Ronni Schnell DMD 81 each received a Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition Award (LLSR)—an exceptional honor. GSDM Clinical Associate Professor of General Dentistry Dr. Mark Ferriero received a second LLSR at last year’s AGD Convocation.

The LLSR is a formal recognition for AGD Masters in the areas of CE and community service in oral health care, and service to organized dentistry. The LLSR symbolizes a member’s dedication to remain current in dentistry and give back to his or her community. To date, fewer than 250 AGD members have received this recognition.

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter said, “Congratulations to Drs. Barakat, Belur, Castillo, Hoaglin, Khan, Karanian, Pamidmukkala, Ferriero, and Schnell on receiving these honors from the Academy of General Dentistry. I am heartened to see our GSDM alumni continue their learning and service as lifelong commitments.”
