The Advanced Specialty Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) celebrated Donald F. Booth Education Day & Return to Residency on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. This was the fifth annual “Return to Residency Day,” which honors Department Chair Emeritus Dr. Booth.
Attendance hit a new record this year, totaling approximately 70 guests. Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Loma Linda University and Director of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. Alan Herford was the day’s speaker.
GSDM Chair of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. Pushkar Mehra presented a departmental report and Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter updated guests on significant achievements at the School, including our successful Accreditation Site Visit, space planning, and the 50th Anniversary celebration. “Thank you all for being here today for this excellent educational conference,” he said, “and allowing me to update you on some of the important and exciting initiatives that are ongoing at our School. I appreciate all of your support.”
Dr. Hereford presented several talks throughout the morning and afternoon on the topics of, “Current Concepts in Treating Facial Trauma including Hard and Soft Tissue Reconstruction” and “Grafting Options for Jaw Defects: Contemporary Concepts.”
“Dr. Herford gave a great talk that was received well by everyone,” said Dr. Mehra. “It was nice to meet many alumni and friends; some of the BU/BCH alumni dating back to the 1960s and as recently as 2012 attended the event.”
Guests received five continuing education credits and also reconnected with old friends and supported the Alumni Association by attending.
