Dr. Richard D’Innocenzo
Two Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) faculty members—Dr. Pushkar Mehra and Dr. Richard D’Innocenzo—edited the second edition of the Manual of Minor Oral Surgery for the General Dentist. Dr. Mehra is Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs. Dr. D’Innocenzo is Clinical Professor and Director of Pre-doctoral Education in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and Vice Chairman of Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Boston Medical Center.
The first edition of the Manual of Minor Oral Surgery for the General Dentist was a bestseller internationally and was translated into multiple languages. The second edition is fully revised and updated with new additional chapters on contemporary topics.

“The book focuses on teaching pertinent clinical and didactic aspects of minor oral surgical procedures to non-specialists. It will provide simple practical guidance to clinicians so they can efficiently perform common surgical procedures successfully in general practice,” said Dr. Mehra.
The second edition of the Manual of Minor Oral Surgery for the General Dentist begins with an expanded chapter on patient evaluation and history taking and a new chapter on managing the patient with medical comorbidities.
It also addresses infections and sedation and contains procedural chapters on such topics as third molar extractions, pre-prosthetic surgery, surgical implantology, crown-lengthening, and biopsy of oral lesions
Dr. D’Innocenzo emphasized that the book is “ideal for dental students as it is easy-to-read, and each procedure is detailed with a step-by-step description and illustration. It should be an indispensable tool for planning in day-to-day practice.”
