As the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) continues to implement its Applied Strategic Plan (ASP), ongoing efforts are focused on Goal 8; to recruit, develop, and retain excellent and diverse faculty and staff. “Please join me in congratulating your colleagues on their promotions and outstanding efforts on behalf of GSDM,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. The Office of the Dean is pleased to announce the following FY14 staff promotions.
Andrew Butler: Mr. Butler is currently a member of the Department of Admissions in the position of Post-doctoral Admission Coordinator. Prior to this, Andrew was the Admission & Student Services Coordinator.
Patrice Freeman-Lau: Ms. Freeman-Lau has been promoted to Director, Staff Administration & Operations, continuing to report to Tim McDonough, Executive Director of Finance & Administration. Patrice began her career at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in October 2008. Patrice will continue to provide direction and guidance regarding employee relations and day to day HR operations management to leadership and departmental management. In her new role, Patrice will be focusing on Organizational Development and Design, and Operational Effectiveness through the identification, development, and implementation of human resources related initiatives that align the GSDM workforce with the strategic goals defined in the Applied Strategic Plan. Patrice will be responsible to ensure that these HR initiatives align with BU Central HR strategic goals and the overall strategic mission of Boston University.
James Howard: Mr. Howard began working at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2011 as Assistant Director of Clinical Finance, in Clinical Affairs. James has been promoted to Associate Director of Clinical Finance reporting to John Reilly, Director of Clinical Operations & Finance. James will continue to oversee Clinical Finance and have responsibilities for all major aspects of the revenue reporting cycle for GSDM, including the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue. In his new role, James will develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive audit plan to aid the Compliance Program and the Clinic Operations Team with risk mitigation and regulatory compliance; perform operational and financial analysis that affect the overall direction of operations and strategic planning; and work on strategic initiatives that impact the access to care for patients while optimizing the learning experience for our students and residents.
Wilemsky Jameau: Mr. Jameau has been promoted to Patient Relations Manager in Clinical Affairs reporting to John Reilly. Wil is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the patient relations program, which includes outlining and defining the Customer Services standards and expectations, patient complaint tracking and resolution, interpretive services program, patient discontinuance process, disruptive patient management, and patient dismissal process. This entails ensuring compliance with GSDM established patient relations guidelines, clinical guidelines and patient rights and responsibilities, including providing periodic training and orientation to staff and providers (faculty and students). Wil began working at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2013.
Tobias Kahan: Mr. Kahan began working at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2007 as the Advanced Standing DMD Admissions Coordinator, reporting to Linda Reed, Director of Admissions. Toby has been promoted to Assistant Director of Admissions. In his new role, he will oversee administrative operations for the Admissions department; hire, train, and supervise support staff, and direct workflow. He will continue to manage admissions for the two-year Advanced Standing DMD program, facilitate the selection and yield of academically talented students, manage application processing, and develop admissions procedures.
Fabian Lako: Mr. Lako has been promoted to Administrative Coordinator in Molecular & Cell Biology and will continue to report to Dorothea Abbott, Operations Manager. In Fabian’s new role, he will provide and coordinate administrative support to faculty, staff, and students to guarantee efficient departmental operation. He began working at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2007.
Erica Manczuk: Ms. Manczuk has been promoted to Associate Director of Student Affairs from her previous role as Assistant Director. Erica began her career at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in March 2008, joining us from Student Affairs at the Medical School. In her new position, Erica will continue to report to Dr. Joseph Calabrese, Assistant Dean of Students, and is responsible for the development, organization, and management of Student Affairs, and will work collaboratively with Dr. Calabrese; Dr. Larry Dunham, Director of Diversity & Multicultural Affairs; and Dr. Steve Polins, Director of Educational Resources to oversee the day to day operations of Student Affairs. She will serve as an advocate for all pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students from pre-matriculation through post-graduation.
Ashley Matsumura: Ms. Matsumura has been promoted to Business Analyst I in Clinical Affairs and will continue to report to the Director, John Reilly. Ashley began her career at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in February 2008 as a patient coordinator in the pre-doctoral Patient Treatment Center. In her new position, she is responsible for reviewing and assessing current clinical operational processes through the identification, definition, development, and documentation of business needs and objectives, current operational procedures, and problems; and developing recommendations to improve the efficiency of the existing processes.
Elizabeth Pinone: Ms. Pinone began working at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2012 as Career Resources Coordinator in Student Affairs. Elizabeth has been promoted to Career Resources Manager reporting to Dr. Joseph Calabrese, Assistant Dean of Students. As a Career Resources Manager, Liz is responsible for the development, organization, and management of the Career Resources Center. She will manage the Careers in Dentistry program supporting all pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students from pre-matriculation through post-graduation.
Barbara Pyke: Ms. Pyke has been appointed Associate Director, Research Office. Barbara will directly support Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska, Associate Dean for Research, in developing program, organizational, and financial infrastructure, and implementing research plans and policies for GSDM. She will guide and direct grant and research administrators at the School to ensure appropriate research policies and procedures and sound financial practices are developed and maintained. Barbara joined the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2011 as the Operations Manager in the Office of Associate Dean for Research.
Megan Shea: Ms. Shea has been promoted to Operations Coordinator at the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue and will continue to report to Kelly Marcinkewich, who is the Operations Manager. In Megan’s new role, she will be responsible for all administrative responsibilities and assist with the operational needs of the Dental Health Center. She will also act as a backup resource in the absence of the Operations Manager and/or Finance Manager to ensure that day to day operations are not compromised. Megan began working at the Dental Health Center in 2012 as an Administrative Assistant.
Johnny Sihakhamfong: Mr. Sihakhamfong has been promoted to Clinical Lab Manager in Clinical Affairs. He will continue to report to John Reilly. In Johnny’s new role, he is responsible for the overall design, development, implementation, management, and tracking of the lab cases and Implant Component Ordering System for all internal and external pre- and post-doctoral laboratory cases. Johnny began working at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2013.
Transfers
Throughout the year, positions become available with the resignation of a previous employee or the creation of a new position to support the current business model. The following individuals filled vacant positions this year which resulted in a promotion.
Melissa Biondo: Melissa recently joined the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery as an Administrative Coordinator supporting the Pre-doctoral Oral Surgery Program. Melissa was a Senior Patient Coordinator for our Post-doctoral Treatment Center in Clinical Affairs.
Elizabeth Fay: Elizabeth was a Patient Coordinator in our Pre-doctoral Treatment Center as part of the Group Practice Model in Clinical Affairs. Elizabeth transferred to the Administrative Coordinator position in General Dentistry.
Janine Lipsky: Janine transferred to the position of Continuing Education Coordinator in Business Development. Janine was a Patient Coordinator in our Pre-doctoral Treatment Center as part of the Group Practice Model.
Paula Pina: Paula was a Patient Coordinator at the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue. Paula transferred to Global & Population Health to the role of School Based Program Coordinator.
Molly Washburn: Molly was a member of the General Dentistry department and held the position of Administrative Coordinator. Molly transferred to Clinical Affairs and is filling the position of Administrative Coordinator, Group Practice.
