The Foundation of the Pierre Fauchard Academy recently honored our student Destinee R. Ingrao DMD 15 with the 2014 Foundation Dental Student Scholarship Award. Destinee received $1,000 to go directly toward tuition and a certificate, which Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Joseph Calabrese, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Cataldo Leone presented to her in a ceremony at the School.
Dr. Calabrese said, “The recognition of the Pierre Fauchard Scholarship is a result of Destinee’s hard work and passion in the classroom and the patient treatment centers and her dedication to the community outside GSDM.”
In presenting the Scholarship to Ingrao, Dean Hutter shared the following statement from a letter from the Foundation that accompanied the Award, “This scholarship award has a proud tradition for its presentation to dental students who have demonstrated the greatest potential for development into outstanding leaders in the dental profession. It is quite an honor that you were selected by your school’s faculty to receive this award as it demonstrates that they recognize your potential for developing into an outstanding leader in the profession because of your participation in the University, dental school, and community. As a recipient of this award, it shows that you have demonstrated qualities of integrity, imagination, and initiative.”
Ingrao said, “I am both honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award. I am also grateful to the faculty and administration at GSDM for recognizing my passion for clinical dentistry and my strong desire to serve my community. I have worked extremely hard these past few years in dental school, and this recognition by my faculty serves as a strong positive acknowledgement of my commitment.”
At GSDM, Ingrao is the Editor in Chief of the ASDA Newsbite and a member of several BU ASDA committees. Because she enjoys learning and teaching, she volunteers as a teaching assistant for pre-clinical endodontics and shadows oral pathology faculty with hopes of tutoring on the subject.
She added, “Dentistry has become a true love of mine, and I feel very fortunate to be learning about and doing what I love. I have a strong belief in the notion of constant, gradual improvement, and I look forward to helping advance the dental profession and better the lives of those I touch.”
“On behalf of the entire GSDM faculty, congratulations to Destinee on receiving this well-deserved 2014 Foundation Dental Student Scholarship Award,” said Dean Hutter. “I also wish to thank the Pierre Fauchard Academy for their continued work to provide scholarships for promising dental students.”
The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, providing financial support of charitable dental projects and scholarships to third-year dental students worldwide.
