Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) hosted its annual Research Retreat on April 17, 2014, in the Hiebert Lounge. The theme for this year’s retreat was “Research Collaborations” and the event showcased ongoing inter-departmental and inter-institutional collaborative initiatives being pursued by GSDM researchers and clinicians. The event began with a poster session in the morning, followed by faculty presentations into the mid-afternoon.
The collaborative efforts presented were extensive and varied. The presentations highlighted interactions between GSDM faculty and their BU colleagues and with premier research institutions such as the Forsyth Institute, local healthcare institutions such as Mass General Hospital, and also federal health care institutions such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Veteran’s Administration.
The event also highlighted the impact that GSDM research is having on a global scale. Dr. Radhika Chigurupati gave a presentation on the Oncogrid project, an Indo-US collaborative mobile health initiative aimed at treating and preventing oral cancer in India. The afternoon presentations featured Principal Investigators who are pursuing research projects on topics ranging from oral cancer to diabetes and periodontitis funded through the GSDM seed funding competition.
“This year’s Research Retreat was extremely enlightening and well-attended” said Associate Dean for Research Maria Kukuruzinska. “It showcased the outstanding research and exciting collaborations being conducted by our students, residents, and faculty.”
