Dr. Alexander Bendayan received the Claude R. Baker Faculty Award from the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics (AAFP) at its Annual Meeting held during the 2014 Midwinter Meeting of the Chicago Dental Society February 20–22. Dr. Bendayan is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of General Dentistry and staff prosthodontist at the BU Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue.
Named for AAFP’s first president Dr. Claude R. Baker, the award honors junior faculty for excellence in teaching pre-doctoral fixed prosthodontics. According to the AAFP website, the award “acknowledges excellence in teaching demonstrated by innovative teaching methods, student awards, and exceptional course materials. Recipients are also significant contributors to the field of fixed prosthodontics as evidenced by publications, presentations, and organization memberships.”
“I was honored to be selected for this national award as a prosthodontist and faculty member at GSDM,” said Dr. Bendayan. He thanked Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, Dr. Steven Morgano, and Dr. Celeste Kong, who spearheaded Dr. Bendayan’s nomination, for their ongoing support.
Dr. Bendayan joined GSDM in 2005. In June 2008, he received an award for Best Faculty Abstract for “Use of Podcasting to Improve Student Performance” at BU’s John McCahan Medical Campus Education Day. He is a graduate of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Prosthodontics at GSDM.
“Congratulations to Dr. Bendayan for this significant achievement,” said Dean Hutter. “We at GSDM have certainly known for a long time what a wonderful instructor Dr. Bendayan is and it is a pleasure to see him recognized for his work on a national level.”
