Dr. Jonathan Shenkin
The Maine Dental Association (MDA) awarded the 2013 President’s Award to Clinical Associate Professor in the Departments of Health Policy & Health Services Research and Pediatric Dentistry Dr. Jonathan Shenkin. Dr. Shenkin won the same award in 2007 and is only the second dentist to be honored twice.
Shenkin received the award on Friday, September 27, 2013, during the President’s Dinner at the MDA Annual Meeting in Rockport, Maine. Immediate Past President Dr. Michelle Mazur-Kary presented the award.
Associate Dean for Global & Population Health Michelle Henshaw commented on Dr. Shenkin’s merit: “Dr. Shenkin was honored for his tireless efforts to promote public policies that effectively reduce disease risk among children, and to educate policymakers about the lack of benefits to treat what is a preventable disease.”
Dr. Shenkin is a spokesperson for the American Dental Association on pediatric dental topics and maintains a private practice in pediatric dentistry in Augusta, Maine. His advocacy focuses on effecting change in oral health policy, with particular attention to the oral health of children.
